Thursday will be our last night in Aberystwyth... Friday we'll be heading to Milton Keynes to visit with Ian's mum & sister, and some other people (not sure who...?), and then on Monday morning we fly out of Birmingham, to Montreal (via Paris). Barring a crash into the Atlantic (Air France oh noes D:) we should land in La Belle Province at about 3 pm local time.

I packed up most of my clothes (everything but what I'm going to wear in the next week, or ship) today, and the movers are coming on Wednesday and Thursday to basically do the rest. Here we go...!

A few people asked for some of the recipes from yesterday's party so here they are! I can't remember which ones people wanted (other than the beans), so here they all are. Enjoy!

Still no word on the leaving date, but we are making progress towards moving! Today a guy came from the moving company to assess our stuff, and it turns out that 30 cubic metres is a lot bigger than I thought! We will be able to bring a lot more of our furniture, probably all the stuff we even kind of wanted. The best part was that he told us the moving guys will pack our stuff for us! They will bring boxes and even picture sleeves for our framed photos, and pack it all up. So we just have to finish sorting out what we're keeping, what's going to be sold/carbooted, and what belongs to other people. We have already lined up some probable buyers for a lot of the furniture we aren't taking, and some of the small electrics. We are going to see if the landlord wants to buy the washing machine, since it is new and in great shape, and it would let him charge more for the place... :V Hopefully he will go for that, since it would certainly be easier than finding someone else who both has the money and the means to take it in time.

Now that the packing stress has been alleviated, I'm actually starting to get excited about Montréal. Woo! Oh and I also found out we'll be flying out of Birmingham instead of London, which is about 1000 times easier. Woo again!

Ian's mum is coming up this weekend; I hope she won't be too horrified by the state of the house! I usually keep it quite tidy, especially when we have visitors, but with the packing/sorting frenzy it's just impossible...

I came across this site today - a collection of humourous edits of [mostly] ST:TNG footage. The later episodes are better, as you'd expect. This is one of my favourites:

Friggin' slugs are destroying my baby bean plants. I'm going to set out some traps to preserve the ones that are left and hope that some of the badly damaged ones can rally...

I friggin' hate slugs!

Well, the sun has returned (but for how long?), and I'm feeling much better, actually. Just like that. :o I went running and everything. I would have managed the 5k but I was attacked by stomach cramps and had to make a bathroom dash. Seems to have been a one-time thing, thankfully! I hung out some laundry and put some food on for dinner and have been knitting and watching Kittycam all afternoon. :3

I have just seen Star Trek, and as a lifelong Trekkie I can say that it fucking RULED. I don't understand how anyone can say it isn't for the old fans. I will not spoil outside a cut, but I will say that it has *so much* to offer, right down to lines lifted straight out of the old films and show. And it is very much in keeping with the spirit of the original Star Trek. As others have said, it was the breath of fresh air that Star Trek needed. It was technically awesome as well - the visuals were great; the sound effects really put it over the top. The Enterprise is breathtaking. :3 All my thumbs up!

And dude... hot Spock!

I went to get a haircut yesterday. I wasn't sure about it then, but today I am... Sure that I hate it, I mean. >:( When she said she was putting shorter layers in I thought she meant underneath, like to give it more body; or maybe just around my face to frame it a bit more (I can't really see what they are doing when I don't have my glasses on). But no. They are on top of the longer hair, all around my head. And since my hair is so straight and fine you can see every cut and it looks friggin' horrible. God damnit. Can anyone point me to some really cute very short styles?

Argh, British hair butchery strikes again!!

It is so nice to have real, non-weird neighbours that we actually have a relationship with - as opposed to horrible Uni flat experiences, or the weird ones we had in town. The people who live in the house attached to ours now are close to our age, and nice. :) We looked after their plants while they were away last week. We talk over the fence when we're both in our backyards. It's all very... neighbourly. :D And just now B came over to ask if I could help her with a knitting problem - she is just picking it up and had dropped a stitch while trying to un-knit a row. I was glad to be able to fix it. :) And then she gave me some herbs! Maybe next time I go to knitting night in town I will see if she wants to come with.

Anyway, it's just cool, is all. :V

Different guy, different flavour of creepy. This one didn't really do anything I could have reported him for, but creepy nonetheless. There is a skeevy vibe you can pick up on when you are a lady and this guy had it turned up to 11.

Went in to start doing squats and while I was setting up this guy gives me a really weird look. At first I thought he was pissed because like 'how dare a GIRL use the squat rack when I want it,' or some dumb shit. But then he just kept staring at me, in a way that just gave me the creeps. Other girls will know what I mean; it's hard to explain. Then when I racked the bar to switch legs while doing split squats he came over and leaned on it, and started talking to me with this cheesy/creepy smile.

Creepy guy: So what's your name.
Me: *gives fake name of choice* Louise. >:(
CG: Why you train so hard.
Me: It's my hobby. (I am trying to be as non-encouraging as possible without being outright rude, because I am a pussy.)
CG: You must do a lot of aerobics. *leer*
Me: No not really.

And a few more inane questions until I finally just snapped 'look I have to finish this,' and got back under the bar. He then left the weight room, without putting away any of his plates (of course). Douche.

At least this guy didn't attempt to 'spot' me while getting so close I could feel his body heat on my ass. Maybe I should be thankful...? :p

Migraine + horrible death cramps make me a sad panda. :( I want to crawl into a dark room and die. :(

OTOH... Ian stayed up until all hours making a cheesecake for me, which is sure to make me feel better... <3

Yeah!

I had a great time with Emii at Wonderwool today. Had some really nice chats on the way there and back, plus the sow itself was awesome. There was a lot more stuff than either of us were expecting! So much to look at, and pet, and buy... @_@ Also they had sheep, and alpacas, and angora bunnies! :3 There was even a food fair going on at the same place, so we got to partake of a hog roast for lunch. Mmmmm, tastes like a pig.

I spent way too much money on a fat bag o' yarn, including my first Noro and Malabrigo. I'm looking forward to finding some fun projects to use them on... I rationalized the expense by telling myself that it was cheaper than it would have been in a shop (one of the stalls even had a 20% Ravelry discount!), and so I have a ton of wool to keep me knitting longer for less money. Right? Right?! ;)

Here's my haul...

Game tonight, guest starring Terry. And hopefully Chinese for dinner. Woo!

We are having a great time hosting Terry... :) Last night we went to the Casablanca for a delicious dinner with a few other people, and then to Scholars before ambling home. He seems to be coping with the hills well! :V

This morning I made pancakes for breakfast, because pancakes freaking rule. The weather was a bit dicey but we decided to go in to town and then figure out a plan. Ended up having a coffee & hot chocolate at Ultra Comida before tackling Pen Dinas. The sun was out for most of our hike, so it was nice and warm (although the wind was strong and cool). Great light and views as always... Then we had a late lunch on the Prom at PD's. We also saw a military parade of some kind. I'm not sure what it was about, but they had a goat for a mascot...?

Good times. It is so, so nice to see someone from home! Tonight we are having some peeps around for movies and possible grillage - the latter is weather permitting. Busy weekend! :)
