I know it's not perfect but this is the biggest dang cake I've ever made, let alone decorated, and I wanted to share! I was asked to make this for the 15th anniversary of the LRP system I play in . It's 13x18 inches, made of 4 9x13 cakes (2 layers). Chocolate on the left, vanilla on the right, with cherry filling. The icing is white mountain flavoured with vanilla and a hint of almond extract. This was my first attempt at writing on a cake! ( Bonus: a tip for filling layer cakes )xposted from bakebakebake, natch. Well, my Ian's birthday party is today, and he requested, months ago, a lemon flavoured cake with a Lovecraftian theme. So lemon=yellow=Hastur for those in the nerd-know like myself... :V I used the recipe for New Starlight Cake (same as in this post), using lemon extract instead of vanilla, and with about 1/8th cup lemon juice substituted for so much milk, and filled the 4 layers (2 rounds sliced in half) with alternating lemon curd and lemon neo-classic buttercream. The covering and decorations are all made from golden marzipan, which he adores, so I piled it on. So, here we go... The stars are right! Well, the hastur bunny was very generous to me this year. I had so much chocolate I had to give most of it to Ian to hide and ration out. I still ate enough to give myself a chocolate hangover though. Yum, Green & Black's. Let's see, how did it go? Friday: I did mostly nothing. I really can't remember. :V Saturday: Went shopping, watched stuff, worked on D2 character, went to the pub. Sunday: Hunted for the hastur bunny's 'gifts' around my house, then at Michelle's. Felt sort of ill but persevered and ate chocolate anyway. Went to Easter lunch at Spoons, and helped Michelle move. Worked on D2 character. Monday: Ate more chocolate. Played a very fun one-shot run by wererogue. Finished my bastard D2 character, whose background clocked in at 7210 words including [most of] the QoD. D: Watched movies and such. So, it was a very fun and irresponsibly spent holiday... I'm trying to get back into the work frame of mind but I've got a headache and ugh. Going to see if I can find some of the stuff I need in town and then go from there. I hope everyone else had a good Easter! ... 7210 words!!! They say 'sick as a dog' but I don't recall ever having a dog that was sick for like 2 weeks at a time... I went to LRP last night and played my little heart out until the drugs and caffeine wore off and I collapsed, at about 10:30. I really love playing this character. People take her at least somewhat seriously, unlike Jennie Blades, who really *was* a stinking rich baroness, incidentally, or poor Persimmon, who only ever had anyone pay attention to her to say that she was nuts. August actually has conversations! And she is Interested in Things! Some people do think she is a nutter, but I think as time goes on they will get used to her... she's just very religious is all! :) And even the people who think I'm a nutjob are happy to have me heal them. And I'm going on that adventure on Saturday unless I am coughing up blood. Today I have to take the train to Welshpool for an interview to get a National Insurance Number... Won't that be fun? Blaaaaaaargh. Me and my interestingly coloured snot/phlegm wanna stay in bed! :( Dw i'n mynd i'r Trallwng! Just got back from Rhys' event in Yorkshire... Well, a couple hours ago now, but I needed to get a bath and such. A nice hot one. I haven't been warm all weekend! The event itself was a lot of fun; I got to play a really fun NPC as well as a shitload of undead. It was really well put together and the players were great! Getting there and some other bits... could have been better. See, apparently Yorkshire doesn't believe in signs, so we got turned around a fair few times. Add that to an exit randomly being closed for construction with ZERO advance warning, and an extremely poorly marked detour, and what should have been about a 6 hour drive ended up being more like ten. Also the car overheated. Twice. It was freezing cold and poured rain the whole first night, so after a couple hours my boots were soaked through despite the waterproofing... my feet were neither warm nor dry for the rest of the event. One of the big advantages to the NPC I was given was that it required super warm kit though, so that was nice. The weather remained crap right up until the morning we left, being bloody cold and/or raining, whee. Much of the site was essentially turned into marsh. My asthma started going nuts on Saturday, and by Saturday night I could barely breathe at all. (My inhaler ran out midway through the afternoon.) I fared better than Pete though, who had to be taken to the hospital after a shoulder roll gone awry! D: He did manage to drive home though, against the recommendation (but not *orders*, see) of the doctor he saw. But really, like I said, the event itself was way fun. I would do it again if we brought an atlas instead of just Google maps instructions (the way back went much more smoothly this way), and a space heater to dry our stuff! I slung up a few pictures if anyone is curious. Tags: geekery, larp, travel, weather Current Location: Aberystwyth i feel: tired

Good morning livejournal. Weekend so far has been busy, but good. Friday night I spent with Ian, watching The Outlaw Josey Wales. It was very fun and relaxed. :) I can't wait til next year... <3 Saturday was a little more nutty. I got up around nine, and went running. Then I went to the gym, and had lunch at McDonalds... I'd been craving it all week long, so I decided to indulge and it was WORTH IT. :9 Most of the rest of the day was spent in a fruitless quest to find a dark [army] green tank top that I could wear backward or mod somehow to look like this: [Edit: Wow, I never noticed how much bigger her left boob is than her right in that photo. I wonder if it's just an odd angle or if she's really lopsided!] I struck out everywhere I looked... Kensington, the Eaton Centre, Value Village, shops on Bloor. I couldn't find anything even close to the right colour or the right style. I hope something will turn up... :( I did pick up some other costume things though, and I scored a pair of yoga pants at Value Village for four dollars that fit like they were made for me -- as opposed to my green gym pants which look somewhat tentish. I also broke down and bought a new pair of jeans -- an expense I really shouldn't have allowed, but I really needed to have more than one pair of pants that fit. These look really hot. I confess that I bought them at the Gap. I didn't get home until after 5. Rob came over later, and I made two more pies... One apple, for the freezer, and one apple-berry, for eatin'. We watched The Omen, and I made applesauce, and then the muffins pictured above, using said sauce. The recipe should be up soon on bakebakebake if anyone is interested! Today I am excited because Rob has promised to take me to HOOTERS! Hooters on a Sunday, what could be classier? Unrelated: my butt really hurts. I never know how sore is 'too sore' to work out or go running... How do you tell?
