what the hell, toronto
I needed some sunglasses, so I popped in a shop around the corner, intending just to take a look... And I bought 2 pairs of glasses (frames and lenses, one set clear, the other sunnies) for less than half of what I paid for lenses alone in Toronto.

iron man
I have seen Iron Man, and it is Good. The ending(s) is (are) perfect!

Also, there was a trailer for the new Hulk film, and it amused me inordinately to see the Zanzibar so prominently featured...

birthday
I had a most excellent birthday season... Thank you to absolutely everyone who made my oldening so special, and relatively painless. :V

A quick rundown:

On my last day in the Miramichi, Tuesday, I baked a cake for my Dad (and me, I guess), whose birthday was this Thursday... He is older than ME, if you can believe it!! We went out for dinner at a nice place in downtown Newcastle, and then ate most of it. :V On Wednesday my grandmother gave me lobster... mmmm. :D On Thursday I got back to Toronto and didn't do much except get my hair cut.

Friday, I went to Cobourg to visit [info]curtana and [info]forthright, and see Arthur one more time before I leave the country. I wonder if he'll remember me at all the next time I see him! There are some cute pictures at the end of this album. I didn't put the naked ones up. :V

On Saturday festivities began in earnest... I met up with [info]xypharan, [info]forthright, [info]curtana, Ace, [info]amaena and [info]rumplefurskin for breakfast at Richtree, and we headed out to Wonderland, where many of us got burned, and some of us tried to get killed falling from ridiculous distances! Roller coasters are still scary. D: After Wonderland... Hooters! :V It was a bit slow, but you don't exactly go there for the service. There we were joined by Byron, Matt and Kate, and later Susan (Rob's SO). After a bit of hotel check-in fiasco (for some reason they had me not only reserved but also CHECKED IN at the Delta Fredericton O_o), there was more pubage and chatting and then, crash. :V

Sunday I did Richtree again with Byron and Matt, then met up with Kate for shopping, and then... MEDIEVAL TIMES. Unfortunately Ace had already headed back and Julie and Steve were in Cobourg with Arthur, but the rest of us got our paper crowns on and had a blast. I will have you know I am now a lady of the realm and I can create armies, so you best all step correct! We got our pictures taken with the King and drank expensive drinks... Rob drank at least a gallon of beer, proving that it is far easier to guzzle than milk... MT was AWESOME!! It was very packed and our section had a ton of energy.... Sadly our knight got killed, though. ;_;

To wind down we all came back to Rob's and there was more drinking and chatting and flashing of boobs (not mine :V) before Matt, Kate and Byron left... Good times. Unfortunately A had a bit of an issue this morning with an D: infection but I think she is mostly OK now.

I have some pictures of the weekend up on facebook here... Check it out!

Attention Toronto Yard Sale Afficionados!
Myself and [info]lickthefrog are moving overseas and hoping to get rid of a bunch of stuff at a dual yard sale tomorrow. There will be books, a sofa, ice skates, shelves, tables, a giant stuffed horse, all kinds of kitchen stuff and much much more! We will be setting up at about 8 AM, at 1462 Avenue Rd., just south of Lawrence.

Come on down, and tell any other Toronto yard-sailers you might know!

it's too hot!
It's supposed to go up to 31 degrees C today, with the humidex up to god knows what, and meant to stay pretty much the same for the next week or so. I am in a fitness quandry, for I do very poorly in the heat -- I tend to faint if I do strenuous exercise. On the weekends I can run or go to the gym in the morning, before it gets hot, but what to do for the other 5 days? It doesn't cool down significantly until later in the evening (for instance, tonight's 'evening' temp. is still scheduled to be 25, only going down to 19 sometime overnight)...

I am not at all confident in my ability to get up at 6 am to run before work. I *could* run at night but I'm not always comfortable as a lady alone after dark in Toronto. My gym only opens at 9 so I don't have a morning option at all there. Also, said gym is not air conditioned, and no, I cannot afford to join one that is...

So what to do? I guess I can try really hard to get up and run, but what about weights? Am I going to be stuck doing nothing for days at a time, just waiting for the temperature to drop a little? This sucks.

I'm also cranky because I did manage to make myself go to the gym last night (it was slightly less hot) only to have it be extremely busy. I couldn't do 2/3 of the things I was supposed to, and ended up having to do mostly machine crap. What a waste of time. I need to be pretty damnit!!

why I hate cyclists in Toronto
A short and likely incomplete list:

- Being hit in a crosswalk, on a walk light, by a guy on a bike who had run the red light.

- Nearly being hit in a different crosswalk (again, on a walk light) by another guy on a bike -- I have since learned never, ever to trust Toronto cyclists to stop on a red, no matter how long it has been red.

- Seeing innumerable bikers run various red lights -- the other day I saw 3 guys in a row run the same red, despite the fact that it had turned well before the first of them reached the intersection.

- Seeing even more cyclists run through stop signs -- people trying to cross at crosswalks be damned!

- The also innumerable times I have been walking merrily along on the sidewalk, only to hear a rude, snide voice from behind me saying 'excuse meeeee,' and have some ass on a bike nearly run me down getting between me and whatever other pedestrians there happened to be ((it is illegal to bike on the sidewalk here, unless you are a little kid).

- Possibly my favourite: being nearly hit by an especially rude jerk on a bike while walking on the sidewalk, despite the fact that there was a BIKE LANE on the damn road.

- Oh, and the creepy old bike guy I sometimes see on the way to work who leers at me and drawls,"you look preeeettyyyyy O_o"

Ugh. If bikers in this city want to be taken seriously, maybe they should stop being asses and actually follow the rules of the road. Until that time, fuck those guys.

faboo weekend!
This weekend was great; I am sad to see it go. My vacation's last hurrah. Friday night Rum & Amanda came into town, and we (including Rob) feasted on tasty Korean meats and watched Pirates 3. Arr! Saturday Stu & Trudi came in, and the group grew larger still with the addition of some of their friends whose names I don't recall... We went to East Side Mario's on Front St., which was the only low point of the weekend. The less said about that place the better! Just don't, is my advice. Anyway, following that we went to see Evil Dead: the Musical. It was hilarious, very well done. Rob and I sat in the splatter zone, right up front, and were duly gushed upon in the last big scene. Good times. I think he bought the soundtrack. This morning, all my peeps left, which was sad; but Rob was still here, which is good! We went out for lunch, and then... to the show of Leonard Cohen's works on paper, 'Drawn to Words.' It was incredible. I don't really have the words to describe it. Each piece is a poem... I could have stayed and stared at them for ages, especially the big one of 'Dear Heather,' which looks so much like my own dear Heather. There was one other print I wanted so very badly, it hurt me in my soul to know I could actually technically afford it, if I weren't trying to save for three years' worth of degree, plus a wedding. Ah well. I must content myself with the catalogue. It was well worth the trip into Richy McRichTown (Yorkville). The weekend was capped off with a relatively productive session of Exia.

Tomorrow, with my vacation officially concluded, I am back on the fitness and healthy eating bandwagon. Oh noes!

good weekend, bad monday (already)
I got a lot done this weekend. Vacuuming, chinchilla cages, laundry, cooking (not baking), lots of dishes... I went to the gym three times (!) and hung out with Rob (of course). We went to see Pan's Labyrinth on Saturday. I highly recommend it, especially to people who like Changeling... It's a gorgeous, fascinating film by the same guy who did The Devil's Backbone. If you haven't seen that one either, you should rent it! We also played a lot of Final Fantasy. :V Pretty typical weekend.

The bad part was that I lost my Metropass somewhere between the Dufferin Subway and my house after leaving the gym on Saturday. I only noticed it missing from my coat pocket on Sunday, so it's long gone. Rob and I scoured my house, and nothing. I am so angry and sad about that stupid pass. All I can hear is my mother yelling at me for misplacing my wallet/keys/whatever yet again, saying I'm careless and irresponsible. :( I was doing so well with money this month, too; I might have actually been able to save a few dollars, but now I'll just barely scrape by yet again, and I can't afford to mail Ian the little package I was putting together.

Also, today sucks.

It really pisses me off to no end when, on days like today where there is less than a cm of snow, pretty much the entirety of the clerical staff (save myself) will be 1/2 hour to an hour late, so I have to answer every single phone in the office. First thing on a Monday morning, with bees coming in the next couple of days, that pretty much makes me want to cry. Hey co-workers: you have all lived in this city for at least one winter before this one. You know that Toronto as a whole turns utterly retarded at the sight of a few lousy flakes of snow, making traffic far slower than usual. So here is a crazy thought... Why not LEAVE A LITTLE EARLIER?!! Or, for those of you who live in Toronto, take the TTC (God forbid you should take public transit like a common temp) if the roads are really so bad? Oh right, it's more convenient for you to make the first hour of my day utterly miserable, thus pretty much ruining the rest of it as well. Thanks so much, die in a fire. Okay, not really... I actually do like them, except for this crap. I just need to vent. :(

chemo squirrel?
I was out on a walk over my lunch hour and I saw a strange creature... After a second I realized that it was a hairless squirrel! It had some fur on its head but was otherwise naked. How bizarre.

the day I did not steal Rob's metropass
So the metropass I got from Rob does not so much work. Since Monday I have found it to work in approximately 50% of the card readers, including only one at Bathurst (where I live) and exactly zero at York Mills (where I work). D: This being non-optimal, I set out for Davisville to get it replaced.

For some reason I figured they didn't need to know the whole thing about how I had Rob's metropass after losing my own. I thought it would be simpler, and save time, to leave all that out, so I cut it down to 'my metropass won't swipe.' But then they asked for ID, and wanted to know where I got it -- without thinking I said York Mills, because that's where I purchased my first one... Then the woman behind the counter started looking stuff up on the computer and she had this look like something was wrong and I'm like oh shit D: and then she TOOK IT IN THE BACK. I realized they must have tracked down where it was actually sold and I was all like ~Ohnoes, they think I stole this metropass!~ But then she came back out and said 'so this is Rob Fisher's metropass' and I'm like '... uh... yeah... he's over at my house a lot...' I didn't want to look like I'd been trying to lie before, so I sort of stammered some stuff out, which probably made me look even more shifty! So I told her she could call Rob if she wanted -- and she said she already had! XD So it was a little wacky but in the end I have a shiny new Metropass that actually works. HUZZAH!!!

That was my big excitement for the week. That and managing 5 real pushups the other day.

I'm Cersei Lannister, bitches!

I decided to dress up a little differently for tonight's festivities...

We went to the Hallowe'en event at Savage Garden where they had awesome shooters! Rum reprised is swashbuckling costume, Rob wore his Riddler outfit, and Amanda had this sweetass Marie Antoinette costume of which I failed to get a picture before she took it off! :( I know Rum got some shots of it though, so all is not lost.

It was a pretty good continuation of the Halloween season, but not quite as fabulicious as EBMfest. :) Tomorrow afternoon I will probably hit up the Halloween-themed Kensington Market as Starbuck again, then there's nothing really Halloweeny going on until Tuesday. I'm dressing up for work (of course), but not really sure what to do during the evening... I won't get a
